Screenprint
Screenprinting: The process of imprinting a design to a substrate using screens. Each color in a design requires
it's own screen (art separation).
The screen is a frame which has mesh stretched over it. These screens are what are used to stencil the image onto the substrate.
basic steps:
1. artwork separation (separating each color in the design)
a. printing a film positive for each color in the design
2. screen preparation
a. screen emulsion
b. screen exposure
c. screen reclamation
3. registration
4. printing the substrate
5. curing the final print
Set-up fees is the most expensive part of screenprinting. Preparing screens for printing can be a lengthy process
.
pros- fast production time, wide range of effects, bright colors, superior quality and durability, limitless substrate potential
cons-when doing small quantities, set up fees make it cost-prohibitive
